Are you living the definition of insanity?

Chances are if you are reading this, the answer is yes.

But how do you know for sure and how do you fix it if you are?

Step 1: Identify Your Emotions

If you’re waking up each morning thinking something like, “Crap, this again.”

Or thinking, “Something has got to change” at some point in your day.

Or even having a “crying in the shower” moment where the overwhelm, frustration, and pain is just too much and you spend a little time letting out your tears in the shower.

If this describes your life in any capacity, you may be living out the definition of insanity.

Remember, the definition is: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Step 2: Identify Your Current Methods of Resolution

Now ask yourself, “What am I doing about this?”

The answer, in my experience, is one of two options:

  1. Nothing.
  2. I’m trying the same few things because I just keep thinking that I’m not applying those methods correctly.

The “Nothing” Method

Most women tend to do “nothing” either out of the gate or during the period of acceptance.

We opt not to take any action because we feel like we are being ungrateful for what we have. We tell ourselves we just need to suck it up. We created this life, why would we want to change it?

Or, we created this life, so this is obviously what I asked for without knowingly asking for it.

Now as you read this, you are probably thinking, “that’s . . . insane.” Exactly. If you are in the Nothing Action Camp, see it for what it is.

The “I’m Going to Master It” Method

If you’re taking action and doing something, it typically ends up being the same action you have taken in the past.

I see women consistently trying to be better at time management or better at organizing their space, their inbox, their files, their meeting agendas, etc.

All of those actions are valuable, but they don’t work when it comes to solving the root of this problem.

Read that again.

The reason why the methods aren’t working is that they cannot solve the ultimate problem.

You can be the ultimate calendar using, color coding, planning, scheduling, and executing queen.

But time management isn’t your issue, so mastering that skill isn’t going to get you the life you want.

Step 3: Learn & Apply a New Method

If you’re living the definition of insanity, now is the time to step out of it!

Acknowledge the problem for what it is.

It’s not that you’re managing your time ineffectively, it’s not that you designed this life and you “screwed up” so you better just live with it, it’s that you’re uncertain of where to spend your time within your career. Because you’re uncertain, you’re afraid.

You know you want to spend your time doing things you love with those you love. But you’re not sure how to do that and keep your career intact. Not just intact, let’s get real. We want our careers to be amazing and our personal lives to be amazing.

To get there, you simply must learn the actions that create career success and security and do those, stop doing the other actions and tasks that do not contribute to your professional success and use that free time to create personal freedom and fulfillment.
